AYAC is a RYA Recognised Training Centre. We offer RYA courses for all stages of the Junior RYA Scheme as well advanced courses in performance sailing, sailing with spinnakers, start racing and seamanship skills. We encourage our youngsters to progress to gain their RYA Dinghy Instructor qualification either by organising a course in house or at an off site venue. We are recognised to run the RYA 1st Aid courses which we encourage all our safety boat crews and volunteer parents to participate.
Youngster can develop their skills as a sailor and participate with the wider community of sailors is by racing in a fun competitive environment, an activity we promote at the Centre.
There are many opportunities for our youngsters to participate in external events, West Sussex Schools and Youth Sailing Association (WSSYSA) have an annual youth regatta, the National Schools Sailing Association (NSSA) hold perhaps the largest youth regatta in Europe and we run our own race series and join in with local yacht clubs in some of their events.
The Centre is acutely conscious that volunteers are our lifeblood, as such we encourage our parents to gain the rudiments of sailing through our volunteer programme on the water generally held on a Friday evenings. Parents with sailing skills are encouraged to participate in the Centre sessions by acting as competent helms for the youngsters assisting our RYA Instructors by passing on their skills!
