Sailing at AYAC is fun and relaxed. The Centre has always had as a prime objective to encourage as many young people from non sailing families within the local area as it can, to discover and enjoy dinghy sailing as cheaply as the Centre can provide, hopefully encouraging the youngsters to continue with the sport throughout their lives. We have a large fleet of mono-
Training at AYAC
AYAC is a RYA Recognised Training Centre. We offer RYA courses for all stages of the Junior RYA Scheme and the advanced courses of performance sailing, sailing with spinnakers, start racing and seamanship skills. We encourage our youngsters to progress to gain their RYA Dinghy Instructor qualification either by organising a course in house or at an of site venue and are recognised to run the RYA 1st Aid course which we encourage all our safety boat crews and many of our volunteer parents to participate
One of the ways in which a youngster can develop their skills as a sailor and participate with the wider community of sailors is by racing in a fun competitive environment, an activity we promote at the Centre. The rewards of achievement from youngster/s and his/her helm/crew and their enjoyment being involved and the camaraderie amongst the parents at all the events and assisting on and off the water makes racing a fantastic part of sailing. The Centre, as a RYA Champion Club, is well positioned to enable young people to develop the basic skills of racing dinghies.
There are many opportunities for our youngsters to participate in external events, West Sussex Schools and Youth Sailing Association (WSSYSA) have an annual youth regatta, the National Schools Sailing Association (NSSA) hold perhaps the largest youth regatta in Europe and we run our own race series and join in with local yacht clubs in some of their events.
The Centre is acutely conscious that volunteers are our lifeblood, as such we encourage our parents to gain the rudiments of sailing through our volunteer programme on the water generally held on a Friday evenings. Parents with sailing skills are encouraged to participate in the Centre sessions by acting as competent helms for the youngsters assisting our RYA Instructors by passing on their skills!
